Our Story.
The American Aid Society of Paris was founded in 1922 with a simple purpose: to help Americans in France through moments of difficulty. What began as neighbors offering small loans has grown into a century-long tradition of care.
Our society is staffed entirely by volunteers and supported only through private donations. We assist Americans of all ages and backgrounds, including students far from home, the elderly, tourists who encounter emergencies, and long-term residents navigating French systems.
Over the years, our work has included temporary financial aid, hospital and retirement home visits, liaison between families in the United States and relatives in France, advice on government services, referrals to English-speaking professionals, and when needed, payment for essential care. Every case is unique, but our approach is the same: we listen with respect, we respond with discretion, and we do our best to provide help at least once to every American who calls.
Although we have worked closely with the U.S. Embassy for decades, the Society remains independent. We rely on the dedication of volunteers and the generosity of donors. One hundred years later, our mission remains the same: to be a steady source of help when it matters most.
